YOGA AND MOVEMENT WORKSHOP WEEKEND WITH VISITING TEACHER PRASHANT TEWATIA.

"I'm Prashant Tewatia. I was born in Harayana, north India, but have made my home down south in Goa now for over a decade.

My introduction to yoga came at an early age, watching my  grandfather practice every morning at home. It was not until I left India for college in Ireland that I truly realised my passion for it however;  looking back I think travel allowed me to view my traditional values in a new light.

Its now 14 years since I returned  home, bringing with me a clear intention for learning and teaching yoga, martial arts, chi gung and other somatic energy practices.

Living in Goa I've been blessed to work with practices and practitioners from all over the world and grabbed every opportunity to dive deep into whatever life presented in order to understand what works, how it works and how to develop my own unique synergy.

I believe this broad based approach has allowed me to distil some of the principles common to these various practices as well as how to share them more efficiently and enjoyably with my students. "

PROGRAMME

FRIDAY

17.00 - 19.00: Primal Movements, 2 hr workshop

Healthy movement is diverse and adaptable. We are born to move in a variety of planes, angles, dynamic trajectories, transitions and joint articulations. As we grow into the patterns of civilization, we can lose whole worlds of our movement capacity! Even in physical practices, we train certain pathways but often miss elements of what is available to us. This all-levels workshop will encourage dynamic coordination, functional mobility, full-body fun, and getting down on all your paws, crawling, locomotion - moving like animals such as monkeys, frogs & lizard etc.

SATURDAY

10.00 – 12.30 : Introduction to Qi Gong, 2,5 hr workshop

Ancient qigong and yoga are essentially two branches of the same tree. Though umbrella terms for a wide range of practices, both yoga and qigong are concerned with unifying the body in order to refine ones ‘qi’ or ‘prana’ to achieve higher states of being. The simple movements of qigong allow the student to easily and effectively feel the internal flows of energy in the body. Once connected with this energy, we can carry this sense in to our yoga practice to correct obstructions in flow and develop our practice to deeper and more subtle levels.

17.00 - 19.00 : Health of Joints, 2hr workshop

Healthy knees, shoulders, wrist and….. joints!

Anyone who who wants to ward off stiffness in the joints will love this practice. We’ll spend time in yoga poses that help keep knees healthy, shoulders mobile, and even toes and fingers supple.

Knowledge is power and the more you know about your body and how it is designed to move, you'll be able to make healthy and supportive movement and postural choices in your everyday life and in any movement practice. This workshop dives right into the anatomy and function of your body and then explores a wide range of healthy movements to help improve mobility, reduce tension and support long-term health.

Prashant’s aim is that you'll walk away with a deeper understanding of your joints, tips to improve your posture, and a whole bunch of supportive and effective movements you can do daily to feel mobile and strong and how to successfully integrate that into your life.

SUNDAY

10.00 – 12.30 : Balanced View - Balancing Poses, 2,5 hr workshop

Do you want to improve your balance, be fearless and get more confident at weight bearing on 1 leg, 2 arms, 3 knees, 4 hands? Balancing can indeed be taken lightly and playfully with the right tools and skills to launch yourself into your pose.

In this workshop we explore yoga asana on the floor and on the mat, using our natural environment to support our practice.

I will give you some practical tools and tips to achieve and refine our equilibrium.

We will start with some movement and somatic exploration relating to finding a strong sense of support, elevation and shifting the body weight in an effortless way. Alongside this physical and anatomical exploration, the participants are invited to dig deeper into the somatic and experiential level of what it is to balance.

17.00 - 19.00 : YOGIC RITUALS - Self Care Workshop, 2 hr workshop

We all have habits. Big or small, healthy or unhealthy, our habits combine to form our daily routine. We perform these without even thinking. Although we know the importance of good habits, sometimes its just tough to stick to a healthy daily routine.

In this workshop, we will learn different ways to improve our daily routine using the principles of Yoga and Ayurveda. We invite you to experiment with your body and then make it a habit. You will discover positive activities that can lead to a healthier and happier life. You will learn effective tools to improve your health, as well as practice gentle yoga asanas, breathing, and meditation.
